This working document focuses on developing strategies, policies, and technologies necessary to ensure the longevity and integrity of digital publications. The goal for this text is to inform institutions on how to address the opportunities and challenges of the digital age so that the digital publications can be permanent and authoritative scholarly work. The main focus of the document is the technological dimensions of digital archiving. Not only does it provide an analysis of the current state of technologies, but also provides a prediction of the future state of the digital archive systems and how it will evolve over the next decade.The thesis essentially seeks to prove that technology does not promote a barrier to long term digital archiving, but rather creates opportunity to control the current and also future power of digital technologies so that they may form a future and substantial digital archiving strategy.
